About the Artist

We can’t stop time; we can stop the moment: Photographer Wendy Phillips conveys this simple truth in island images that capture the joy of love, the beauty of nature, the spirit of life.

Wendy was born and raised in China, where she was known as Wang Mi, and pursued her academic schooling in Japan. Equipped with a Masters degree in Japanese Literature, she worked as a Chinese linguist, writer, and TV anchor in Tokyo for over 15 years until, in 2001, she moved to the Island of Hawaii with her husband, James, and founded Kohala Resort Photography.

Wendy focuses on the multifaceted song of the islands, from children’s portraits and precious romance photos to serene ocean-sunset series and verdant tropical scenes. Her work appears in numerous resort publications and her family portraits have been selected by the legendary Massachusetts stationer Crane & Co. for inclusion in the Holiday Card catalogues. She teaches Kohala Coast visitors and residents the art and technique of digital photography in small-group classes at The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel.
